A marathon singathon in Dudley for Mary Stevens Hospice

Parkes Hall Social Club held a marathon singathon event raising money for charity. Organised by Dynamics Rock and Pop, we caught up with them in the morning as they kicked it off dressed in there PJ's.

00:00So it's very early on a Saturday morning but there's a full disco in swing down here at

00:04Parkesall Social Club.

00:05Joanna, it's your fault.

00:06It is my fault, I do apologise to all the local people, but yes it's Dynamics Rock

00:11and Pop and this is our music marathon day where we're going to be doing musical activities

00:15for the next 15 hours.

00:16What?

00:17So we've got a choir of about 100 people and they're splitting up into groups during the

00:22day and we've got different theme hours going on and then tonight we've got a massive party

00:26tonight because we are getting together at 7 o'clock this evening and the choir will

00:30be performing for an hour, we want friends and family to come down, we've got a huge

00:34auction and a raffle, then I will be performing for an hour, which is the downside of things

00:38but never mind, and then the Dynamics band will be performing as well and then we're

00:43going to disco into the early hours.

00:44So it's going to be an absolutely great day, all in aid of Mary Stephens hospice.

00:48Mary Stephens, great cause.

00:50Absolutely.

00:51So we're really looking forward to raising as much money as we can so that Mary Stephens

00:55can benefit from our funding.

00:57So how did you pick Mary Stephens then?

00:59Some of our members have had relatives who have been looked after by Mary Stephens hospice

01:03so we thought that was important to support them so they could work.

01:06So what do you do to prep yourself for an event like this?

01:10Is there the bottles of Lucozade hidden under the stage?

01:12We're going to have lots of cups of tea, Parkes is all about providing us with cups of tea

01:16and coffee all day so we'll be keeping well lubricated during the day.

01:21We tried to get an early night last night but it didn't quite happen.

01:24Yeah, you got the buzz of the event haven't you, that's the thing.

01:27And you're in your PJs, we've got the teddy bear there, that's for the morning session

01:31isn't it?

01:32For the morning session and do have a change of clothes, I'm not stopping in my pyjamas

01:34all day.

01:35We've all got dressing gowns on and everybody's having a lovely time at the moment.

01:40So have you just ripped tomorrow off for like a salty bath to rest the legs?

01:43I wish, I've got things to do tomorrow as well.

01:46Oh no, but we'll see if they get done.

01:48Well, no, fantastic cause, I mean Mary Stephens are great and what a fun way to raise money

01:53and you know what, you're having a workout as well, I mean, it's a win-win isn't it?

01:57We've only done an hour, I'm shattered already.
