00:00Mali will partially lift its suspension on the issuance of mining permits on March 15,
00:08the country's mines ministry announced in a statement on Friday.
00:12The West African nation, which is a leading gold producer, halted the allocation of mining
00:18titles across its territory in November 2022, citing efforts to improve the permitting process.
00:26In 2023, Mali introduced a new mining code that increased taxes and granted the state
00:33greater stakes in mining assets.
00:37The ministry said the suspension will be eased after major work to clean up the mining register.
00:44Under the new directive, authorities will accept applications for the renewal of such
00:50and exploitation permits, transition from such to exploitation, and the transfer of
00:56exploitation permits.
00:58However, the issuance of the new mining permits and the transfer of such permits will still
01:03remain suspended until then.
