It’s been nearly 56 years since the Apollo missions first brought humans to the Moon. And now, more than half a century on, there’s renewed interest in lunar exploration, with private companies at the forefront.

00:06On the 2nd of March, Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lander touched down in the Mare

00:12Crisio, marking the first successful private lunar landing.

00:17Blue Ghost is going to be conducting experiments ranging from subsurface drilling to X-ray

00:23imaging.

00:24Then, a matter of days later, Intuitive Machines' Athena lander aimed for a touchdown near the

00:31Moon's south pole.

00:33Despite a successful descent, Athena appears to have encountered some issues during landing.

00:38It's been nearly 56 years since the Apollo missions first brought humans to the Moon.

00:45And now, more than half a century on, there's a renewed interest in lunar exploration, with

00:49private companies at the forefront, driven by technological advancements and the quest

00:55for natural resources.

00:57These missions aim to pave the way for sustainable human presence on the lunar surface, and could

01:03be a valuable stepping stone towards a manned mission to Mars.
