00:00The Department of Education or DepEd has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving and addressing concerns

00:06regarding the alleged ghost students under the Senior High School Voucher Program.

00:11DepEd also stated that an investigation is underway leading to the removal of 55 schools from the program

00:18due to the alleged irregularities.

00:20RPTV's Mela Lismoras has the details.

00:24The Department of Education has assured the public it continues to address the issue of alleged ghost students

00:33under their Senior High School Voucher Program.

00:35During the hearing of the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture,

00:39DepEd Education Program's Management Office Project Manager, Atty. Tara Rama said

00:44an ongoing investigation on the matter is underway and so far,

00:48they have terminated the participation of 55 schools in the program due to alleged ghosting and other issues.

01:18DepEd has yet to determine the total amount that may have been lost due to ghost students.

01:35However, they have already withheld payment for some billing statements from certain schools.

01:48Lawmakers insist they will continue to monitor the issue until it is resolved.

02:11They are also urging DepEd to ensure that only those who truly need assistance are included in the voucher program.

02:18We're talking about public funds here.

02:21For us, even if it's the agency or whoever is sitting there,

02:26the money of the country must be used properly.

02:31Meanwhile, the extreme hit menacing the country was also brought up during the hearing.

02:35Eventually, lawmakers shared their suggestions.

02:38I hope DepEd will consider reducing the subjects.

02:43Let's ensure functional literacy.

02:45The agency really needs it.

02:47We have a long-term plan because we expect this to be an issue every year.
