00:00Today we have the honor of speaking with a London-born singer-songwriter

00:04celebrated for her unique blend of electronic and organic pop music.

00:10And it's all welcome, the art is known for storytelling through song.

00:14Ladies and gentlemen, Tiggy Hawke.

00:16Good morning, welcome here, Rise and Shine Philippines.

00:18Let me just correct if there's something wrong with the pronunciation of your name.

00:21Your name again is?

00:22Tiggy Hawke.

00:23Tiggy Hawke, all right.

00:24Good morning, welcome here.

00:26Thank you for having me.

00:27Is this your first time here in the Philippines?

00:29It is my first time.

00:30So how was it?

00:31Incredible, very incredible.

00:33Any places you've already visited?

00:35Well, we've kind of been bouncing between Manila and Pampanga.

00:41We've seen Parangay there as well, which was incredible to meet a community

00:46and really get involved with their school and their life.

00:51It was an incredible experience.

00:53And you have to also taste their food in Pampanga.

00:55It's really good there.

00:56I did.

00:57I was told it was, you can't go there and not try it.

01:01So we had a really lovely experience and I tried loads of food.

01:05My favorite is the sisig.

01:07I won't lie to you.

01:08I could have sisig every day.

01:09Yes, sisig is really famous there in Pampanga.

01:12But let's go now with the interview proper.

01:15Could you share what initially inspired you to pursue a career in music

01:20and how your early experiences shaped your sound?

01:24Well, I started writing when I was in school

01:27and I kind of used it as more of like a therapeutic exercise.

01:31And I actually started writing initially just lyrics.

01:36So without sound, without song.

01:38And then I met someone in the music industry

01:39and they were suggesting that maybe I should try and make songs instead

01:43and include what I was trying, my storytelling

01:46and what I was trying to say into a song.

01:49And from then, we're here, basically.

01:53It became, I didn't realize it could be a career.

01:56And so when I was kind of in school,

01:59thinking about what I wanted to do with my life,

02:01it was not until a little kind of further into finishing school

02:05that I thought, oh, maybe I could do this for life.

02:09I love this so much.

02:11It feels like my soul is happy.

02:12I'm, you know, connecting with people on a level that I really, really love.

02:18So I feel very, very grateful that I've been able to kind of pursue this career.

02:23Aside from being a singer, you're also a songwriter.

02:27How do you approach songwriting?

02:28And do you have a specific process or environment for your music?

02:34The environment changes all the time.

02:36So I can be in my studio.

02:38I could be in another person's studio.

02:39I could be in a different country, even a hotel room.

02:42Actually, you know, sometimes you end up writing in some strange places.

02:47But for the process, I normally like to start with a concept.

02:51So I like to see where the story is going so I can then build around it.

02:55So if I know where I'm headed,

02:59I feel like it's much easier for me to find the path to, you know,

03:03the core of the story, the core of what I'm trying to portray to people.

03:08Okay.

03:09Now, can you share us any details about your upcoming projects or collaborations?

03:14Well, I'm actually I'm releasing some songs this year,

03:17which I'm very excited about.

03:18Some of them are still in the works.

03:19So I have some work to do and I will do it.

03:23I will be coming back in September as well.

03:26And I have hope.

03:27Well, I know that I'll have some shows then.

03:29And in December, I'm back again.

03:32So I've never been to the Philippines before,

03:34but one year I'm coming three times.

03:36I'm very excited.

03:38And I have a festival show in December,

03:41in the beginning of December in Clark under PH Live Music,

03:46which I'm very excited.

03:47The lineup is going to be incredible and the energy unmatched.

03:52So PH Live Music is when?

03:55In December.

03:56But you have a series of trips going here to the Philippines three times this year.

04:00Yes.

04:00Wow.

04:01Yes.

04:02I might move.

04:03That's okay.

04:04We're looking forward and we're very excited with the songs you'll be playing for us.

04:10So Tinggy, what advice would you give to emerging artists

04:13navigating the music industry today?

04:16Well, it's tough.

04:17It's tough.

04:18And I think my advice would be something that I didn't do,

04:22which is really remain authentic to yourself at all times.

04:26I mean, a lot of people will be, you know,

04:29guiding you one way, guiding the other.

04:31And some people are right.

04:32Some people are wrong.

04:32But I think you have to listen to your gut and really try

04:36and follow the path that you see yourself doing.

04:40And sometimes, you know, sometimes you do little side quests,

04:42and that's totally fine.

04:44But as long as you follow your authenticity and your heart,

04:47I think you'll find it.

04:48All right.

04:49Before we end, I want to ask,

04:50what are your message to your Filipino fans

04:53since you're continuously connecting to them and with your songs?

04:59Go ahead.

05:00I want to thank everyone for all of your support.

05:04I feel very honored to have Filipino fans on my journey,

05:09and I would love to connect with everyone on every level.
