Celtic 5-1 Aberdeen: Brendan Rodgers awaiting interest in key star as club take VAR issue to SFA

00:41his night and it moved Celtic 16 points clear at the top of the league pending the Rangers

00:47result against Kilmarnock on Wednesday night. A fine night for Brendan Rodgers' side who

00:53felt aggrieved that they didn't take at least a point from the house game, much controversy

00:57over the disallowed goal for Dijs and Maida at 2-1 in the game, Alistair Johnston's cross

01:03into the box turned in by the Japanese international but it was deemed by VAR that the ball was

01:09out of play. Celtic have taken this matter to the SFA but it's not going to really change

01:16much in terms of the result, it will still stand as a defeat for Celtic on their record

01:21so not much will come of that outside of maybe an apology from Willie Callum in the head

01:26office at Hampden but they put that behind them against Aberdeen. They weren't great

01:31in the first half, they were winning 3-0 at the break but that didn't really tell the

01:34full story of the game, a few errors at the back, Kevin Nisbet really, really should have

01:39rolled the ball into an empty net when poor communication at the back, Kasper Schmeichel

01:44just passes straight into him, he hits it first time and it trundles past the post with

01:48Cameron Carter-Vickers scrambling back to try and clear it. At that moment you kind

01:53of thought Aberdeen looked the most likely to get the goal but dies in mind they're scoring

01:57a very odd goal, a deflected cross, Aberdeen are just standing staring at it, he swings

02:03a leg at it, puts it beyond Ross Duan, the former Celtic goalkeeper who didn't have a

02:06great night albeit on his return to Parkhead. That made it 1-0 and then from there Celtic

02:12never really looked back, Jota got in on the act and from there it was very, very comfortable.

02:18Celtic could have really probably scored another 1 or 2 on the night as well, Armie

02:23Engels a star performer in midfield but Maida again taking a lot of the headlines, Brendan

02:29Rodgers saying after the game that he would expect interest in the forward given his season

02:34to this point, he's had a tremendous 2025, a season overall and looks the overwhelming

02:40favourite to be the player of the year in Scotland this year once Celtic eventually

02:43are crowned as champions and you would imagine favourites for a treble as well. So that another

02:49good night for Celtic as they march closer and one game closer to another Premiership title.
