Chinese hikers capture dramatic snow avalanche

A small-scale avalanche occurred on February 20 near the Shenpu Trail in Yubeng Village, a popular trekking area within Meili Snow Mountain in Yunnan's Diqing Prefecture. A tourist who captured the incident on video described how the avalanche, initially thought to be distant, reached them within 30 seconds from 4 kilometers away. Hikers evacuated to wooden sheds and other safe areas.  Local authorities confirmed that the avalanche took place in an undeveloped ice lake area, where tourists are not advised to enter. Safety warnings, signs, and staff guidance are in place to prevent risks.  The Yunling Township People’s Government reported no casualties and attributed the avalanche to recent weather conditions—frequent snowfall followed by sunny days, causing rapid snowmelt and increasing avalanche risks.  #china #chinanews #avalanche
