00:07with those securing top positions expected to be frontrunners for cabinet posts if the

00:13current government retains power at the next general election.

00:18P Siva Murugan of University Science Malaysia expects those who secure seats on the party's

00:24central executive committee to be its leading faces at the 16th general election.

00:30He said there appear to be two factions, one led by DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng and the other

00:36by DAP Secretary General Lok Siu Fok.

00:41Siva Murugan also said leaders in Lok's camp are likely to dominate the CEC as DAP seeks

00:48to reposition itself within mainstream politics.

00:52Another key focus will be a likely tussle between Lim Hui Ying, daughter of DAP veteran

00:58Lim Kit Siang and sister to Guan Eng, and Human Resources Minister Stephen Sim, who

01:04are both gunning to be Penang's next chief minister.

01:07James Ching of University of Tasmania said although party members appear to be split

01:12around whether they support Guan Eng, they do not give rise to permanent factions.

01:18He said that while the Secretary General is considered the most senior party leader

01:22in DAP, party chairman Guan Eng still holds significant influence.
