'More than Nepal’s GDP' remark adds fuel to KIIT controversy

A 20-year-old Nepali student at KIIT, Bhubaneswar, died by suicide after allegedly facing harassment.

00:27Meanwhile, this conversation, purportedly between Prakriti and her ex-boyfriend, went

00:30viral across India and Nepal.

00:52Students claim that Prakriti had previously complained to the International Relations

00:55Office about harassment.

00:57However, no action was taken.

00:59This inaction had fuelled anger among the university's Nepali students.

01:03As tensions escalated, GIT had issued a notice asking all Nepali students to vacate the campus

01:07immediately.

01:08Over 500 students were taken to railway stations and asked to leave.

01:12Videos of hostel officials had gone viral.

01:42They later apologised for hurting sentiments of the students.

02:10Following viral videos of the eviction, GIT suspended three officials, including two hostel

02:15Two security personnel were also fired for mishandling the situation.
