PAS president wants more use of Malay language in official matters

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang lamented the underuse of the Malay language in Malaysia, particularly in official matters and major events, where its presence remains minimal.   During the Royal Address debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Feb 18), the Marang MP also pointed out that other countries, like those at the United Nations, have leaders who speak in their native languages, while Malaysian leaders speak in English. 00:12We have accepted Malay as our national language.

00:18At the same time, other languages are allowed.

00:41In shops, in cities, all languages are available.

00:46Malay is sometimes smooth.

00:49What about English? English is no longer available.

00:53In the parliament, there are only three white people.

01:00There are many of us.

01:02All of us can speak Malay.

01:04We can also speak English.

01:07The official letter, the way to the court, is still the same.

01:11We see other countries.

01:13Go to the UN.

01:14Their leaders speak in their native language.

01:17Our leaders don't speak in English.

01:20They speak in foreign languages.

01:22Unless the country is colonized.

01:25Their leaders speak in French.

01:28Their leaders speak in Spanish.

01:30In our country, we also speak in English.

01:32But countries that have their own identity,

01:35have their own national spirit,

01:37speak their own language.

01:39This is very important.

01:40Therefore, we emphasize that this national language is very important.
