There is already a candidate for Malaysia’s ambassador to the United States, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 00:13There are candidates, but the process is as usual.

00:16They will be acknowledged by the Prime Minister.

00:19I hope that when I go to Bahrain for the visit of the Prime Minister, we will be recognized.

00:28Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers in Puchong, Anwar said the formal approval

00:34is expected after his official visit to Bahrain next week.

00:38The appointment follows the end of Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz's two-year term on February 8.

00:45Anwar also revealed that other candidates he had considered included former CIMB chairman

00:50Tan Sri Nazir Razak, ex-MP Yusmadi Yusof, and Institute of Strategic and International

00:56Studies Malaysia chairman Faiz Abdullah.

00:59Earlier on Friday, former Permatang PAU MP Nurul Izzah Anwar highlighted the importance

01:05of appointing a well-prepared envoy to handle complex international relations.

01:10Meanwhile, former Banggi MP Ong Kian Ming previously suggested five potential candidates

01:17for the role, including Nurul Izzah and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri

01:23Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
