00:00Only three of 41 vloggers and social media influencers invited to the first House Triad

00:06Comp hearing exactly two weeks ago showed up in what many believe was an apparent show

00:14Show cause orders have been issued as a result.

00:16So tomorrow's second hearing by the House Triad Committee on the spread of disinformation

00:22and fake news is expected to draw greater participation as we hear this detailed report

00:29from our Melales Moras.

00:34The House Triad Committee is set to hold its second hearing tomorrow as it ramps up its

00:38investigation into the growing threat of disinformation and fake news online.

00:43According to one Ryder Partylist Representative Roger Gutierrez, the lawmakers should focus

00:47on the alleged Chinese-backed disinformation campaigns on social media this time.

00:52It was mentioned by one of the research persons, I think it was Press One, that there was a

00:58link between misinformation and allegedly Chinese-owned accounts, Chinese backing.

01:04There is allegedly a link between Chinese backing of misinformation in the West Philippine

01:09Sea and political campaigns for certain individuals in the country.

01:14So I think that's why it's very important.

01:17House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Alonto Adjo said that social media influencers who

01:21were previously issued a show cause order by the committee should appear at the hearing.

01:26Influencers simply want to hear their side and this should not be seen as a suppression

01:30of their freedom of speech.

01:31Especially during this campaign period, it is used to propagate fake news.

01:36I think all of us should agree that we need to regulate the dissemination of malinformation,

01:44disinformation.

01:45If there's no valid reason for their absence again this time, maybe it will rise to show

01:54cause order and then maybe they will be subpoenaed.

01:58According to House Committee on Public Order and Safety Chair Dan Fernandez, who is leading

02:02the Tricom, they want to determine whether the existing laws are sufficient to prevent

02:06the spread of misinformation in the country or new laws are needed to address the issue.

02:11Meanwhile, regarding the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, lawmakers

02:16are hoping for the trial to begin soon.

02:19This after a petition was filed before the Supreme Court urging the Senate to constitute

02:23themselves immediately into an impeachment court.

02:26We respect the stand of the Senate as they have the sole authority and responsibility

02:34in relation to the subject of impeachment convening as the impeachment court.

02:38As a personal opinion, I believe that in the eyes of other luminaries, the forthwith provision

02:47of the Constitution would mean immediately.

02:49And I think that's what the Mandamos petition is talking about.

02:54And so I would tend to agree with that petition.

02:57For now, the House Prosecution Panel continues its preparations as they consider it part

03:02of their constitutional duties.
