Germany is the EU country which welcomes the most non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine after Russia's invasion. Nearly half of Ukrainian citizens who escaped are adult women.

00:10In December 2024, nearly 4.3 million non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine after the invasion
00:17by Russia had temporary protection status in the EU under an exceptional arrangement
00:22for displaced non-EU nationals who cannot return to their home country.
00:27Germany has the most people receiving temporary protection from Ukraine at 27.3%,
00:33followed by Poland at 23.3%. Between November 2024 and December 2024, there was an increase
00:41of over 25,000 people under temporary protection in the EU. The largest increases were observed
00:48in Germany with a growth of almost 9,000 people, Poland with over 3,700 and the Czech Republic
00:55with slightly over 3,400. The number of people under temporary protection decreased only in
01:02Denmark, Italy and France. Compared with the population of each EU country, the highest
01:07ratio of temporary protection beneficiaries per 1,000 people were observed in Czech Republic,
01:13Poland and Estonia. Ukrainian citizens represented over 98.3% of the people
01:19under temporary protection in the EU. Adult women made up almost half of this number,
01:24children represented nearly one-third, while adult men accounted for less than a quarter.
