Amna Mohammed Al Mansouri from Abu Dhabi has been named as the UAE Arab Reading Champion.

The announcement was made during an award ceremony held at Higher Colleges of Technology - Men’s College, Dubai on Friday. “Books have taught me to live and face challenges,” said Al Mansouri in an exclusive interview to Gulf News.

00:00Today we are here celebrating the 7th edition of the Arab Reading Challenge.
00:14Mashallah, in the UAE alone, around 514,000 students participated.
00:20You can imagine, half a million students, each one read 50 books.
00:25This will really boost the knowledge.
00:27Because we in the UAE are very proud of the knowledge-based economy.
00:30And to do that you need people who are reading.
00:33And when they read, they become talents.
00:35So we are very proud.
00:37All the thanks to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum
00:40because he is the one who created this Arab Reading Challenge back in 2015.
00:44And you can see the huge impact.
00:46There are lots of criteria, number of books.
00:49It's not only about reading the book, it's about comprehending the book.
00:52Being able to answer the question of the judges.
00:55Being able to summarize it.
00:57So definitely the winner today, she should be very proud of herself, Miss Amna.
01:01Because she surpassed half a million students.
01:04How many books did you read?
01:05131 books.
01:07I started reading since I was young, so I cannot tell.
01:10But in the past two years, I spent a lot of time on reading.
01:15So many books. Classical books, scientific, philosophy.
01:19You can imagine everything.
01:21Who's your favorite author?
01:23Okay, it's Jokhal Harti from Oman.
01:26Who wrote Sayyidat Al Qamar.
01:28And it's Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
01:31What is something that you've learned from reading?
01:34A lot, actually. It taught me how to live.
01:37Okay, really? Your books have taught you how to live?
01:40Yeah, yeah. How to face the challenges I face.
01:46In Emirates National School, we have a strategy for all our branches.
01:49We have six branches in UAE.
01:52This year, Lion Brand won the first place in the Arabic Reading Challenge.
01:58And because there is a long strategy we have for all the schools.
02:02And this is the second time for Emirates National School to have this,
02:06to win this first place in all the UAE schools, government and private schools.
02:11100, 150 books.
02:13Wow, in the span of how long?
02:15One month or two months.
02:17The judging happens where? In your school?
02:20First in my school, then for Fujairah, then for all UAE.
