00:00But just to pick up on the point that was made by that EU foreign policy chief, I mean

00:04this concession that Ukraine will not be joining NATO now or probably ever as far as we understood

00:12from what was said to Vladimir Putin by Donald Trump, I mean is it useful to put a key negotiating

00:21issue on the table like that and just give it away before negotiations have even started?

00:26We know, typically one doesn't want to give away what one could assume would be the ask

00:31of the other side and that might very well have been an ask of Vladimir Putin, but again

00:36because there was opacity coming from the United States for a number of years and throughout

00:43about whether or not NATO would and should expand into Ukraine, it's not as if this was

00:50such a major concession, but there will be real questions, there will be questions about

00:55sovereignty in Ukraine and guaranteeing their sovereignty.

00:58And I do believe in the United States we have an obligation to provide the kinds of security

01:03guarantees and support to Ukraine that we also provide to many other allies around the

01:08world including South Korea, Israel, Taiwan and others where we make it clear that invading

01:16or crossing over into their territory will result in consequences.
