There are many perks to country living, but there are also some pitfalls.
00:08
The long and often odd hours and the locations can make finding a significant other a little
00:15
tricky.
00:16
I'm full time on the family farm and I was really struggling to meet someone.
00:22
I'm at uni, I'm doing agriculture and still then I hadn't met anyone, I don't go to the
00:27
pub on a Friday night and I just felt like if I was struggling, surely other people are
00:33
struggling as well.
00:36
Twenty three year old Mia Ryan lives and works on this picturesque rural property not far
00:44
from the Hunter Valley.
00:46
She's a horse trainer, working mainly with warm bloods to keep them agile and in condition.
00:54
It usually takes about an hour, hour and a half to get through each horse.
00:57
And although not exactly long in the tooth, she didn't want to waste any more time waiting
01:02
for Mr Right.
01:04
So Mia decided to take matters into her own hands and with no experience at all, she set
01:10
about creating a dating app specifically for farmers.
01:15
Mia settled on a developer in Sydney, took a huge business loan and with the help of
01:20
a coding team based in Nepal, in the space of just over three months, Mia created Howdy.
01:27
I'm going to get ready.
01:34
On Howdy.
01:35
It was launched in March 2024.
01:38
It now has more than 10,000 downloads and a couple thousand paid subscribers online
01:44
looking for love right now.
01:46
Hey, I'm Brenton.
01:47
I'm so excited to be joining Howdy today.
01:50
We've got so many long distance relationships happening.
01:54
I had one just the other day of a girl saying, I just went on my first date, I flew down
01:58
to Melbourne.
01:59
We had a great weekend.
02:00
Another couple each drove five hours to meet in the middle in Roma.
