She had zero interest in him at first, but this cat didn't give up. We talked to their mom Vicky about how Darby was so heartbroken after their cat passed away, but now she's a puppy again with her new BFF!

00:00My cat, Simon, sort of brought Darby back to life.

00:03When Nittany died, the brown tabby that we had,

00:06it was actually the first time I had ever seen an animal mourn.

00:12A part of her was missing.

00:14She missed a playmate.

00:16She missed somebody that, without having words to speak,

00:19someone who got her.

00:20Then came Simon.

00:23She wanted nothing to do with Simon.

00:26Simon would just go into her bed when she was sleeping

00:28and just make himself at home.

00:30He would play with her tail.

00:32He would just do anything to try to engage.

00:37Darby was very slow to warm up, but once she did,

00:41she accepted Simon wholeheartedly

00:44as her new brother.

00:48The stare down before the ambush, it's hilarious.

00:58And she smiled.

01:04Darby, you're such a good sister to that crazy cat over there.

01:09And it was like, I finally have my person, my animal,

01:12my sibling.

01:13That is the total difference that Simon has made.

01:16Simon's persistence and patience led to the bond

01:20that they have now.

01:22It was super healing for Darby.

01:24Their routine outside is when they connect the most

01:28because they both love to be outside

01:30and they don't like to do it without the other.

01:34Seeing how their relationship has grown,

01:37now I understand that unspoken language that only

01:41they talk to with each other.

01:42Animals want that connection.

01:44They're each other's soulmate.
