00:09top stories at this hour. President Xi Jinping announced he would cut troop levels by 300,000
00:15as China held its biggest display of military might in a parade to commemorate victory over
00:19Japan in World War II, an event shunned by most Western leaders. Xi, speaking on a rostrum
00:25overlooking Beijing's Tiananmen Square before the parade began, said China would cut by
00:3013 percent, one of the world's biggest militaries, currently 2.3 million strong. Heart-rending
00:36pictures of a toddler's lifeless body washed ashore on a Turkish beach sparked horror as
00:41the cost of Europe's growing refugee crisis hit home. The images of a tiny child lying
00:46face down in the surf at one of Turkey's main tourist resorts has once more put a human
00:52face on the dangers faced by tens of thousands of desperate people who risk life and limb

01:28overcoming Andreas Haider Moura 6-4, 6-1, 6-2, but eight-seed Rafael Nadal was tested
01:35during his 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Diego Sebastian Schwarzmann. Kim Kardashian is now
01:42queen of Instagram. The reality star announced she has now 45 million followers on the app
01:47more than any other user. Pop stars Taylor Swift and Beyonce are close behind at 44.7
01:53million and 44.6 million respectively. Two other pop stars, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande
