00:00Heart disease and strokes are the world's leading causes of death.
00:14They claim 17.3 million lives each year, and the numbers are increasing every day.
00:21Each year, World Heart Day takes place on September 29.
00:26This year's theme addresses the importance of a life-cause approach to the prevention
00:31and control of cardiovascular disease, with a focus on women and children.
00:36Dr. Nusheen Mohammed Bazirgani, consultant cardiologist at Dubai Hospital, says,
00:42Cardiovascular disease is a killer, is a very expensive disease to be managed and to be
00:48treated.
00:49And on the other hand, cardiovascular disease is preventable.
00:54Several studies, whether has been conducted internationally, globally, or regionally,
01:00or even in UAE, they have identified at least 80% of preventable cause for ischemic heart
01:09disease.
01:10Therefore, we believe in Dubai Heart Center, in Dubai Health Authority, with collaboration
01:18with other NGOs and with other organizations, like Mojahed Al-Fatahm Foundation, Emirates
01:24Cardiac Society, and other health authorities in UAE, that we can offer a lot in the term
01:31of fighting against cardiovascular disease.
01:34Say no to any kind of product of tobacco, we don't mean only cigarette, it's the shisha,
01:42the medwakh, which is becoming very common in our children, in our society, simply because
01:49it is widely available, and children, they don't know that it's tobacco that they are
01:54smoking.
01:55It has kind of social background, or it is socially accepted among children that you
02:01can use medwakh.
02:03And the other thing that one of my patients told me, is I use medwakh for two reasons.
02:09One is easily available, and second, when I use it, there is no smell, so my parents
02:14will not know that I have been smoking.
02:17So these are the specific problems that we have, specifically in our community.
02:23It's important for you to have at least half an hour physical activity per day for at least
02:29five days a week.
02:30When we say physical activity, we mean brisk walking, we mean swimming, we mean running,
02:37we mean cycling, whatever, what sort of physical activity that is good and appropriate to your
02:44lifestyle, please adopt it, and please help us to help you not to become a patient for
02:50cardiology.
02:51If you are prone to a sedentary lifestyle, take that first step in adopting simple lifestyle
02:57changes that can make you a happy heart and good health for years to come.
