00:00This is a grade 5 Hindi language class in progress.
00:12Students had their entire book transformed digitally.
00:16All they did was scroll up and down to recite a beautiful poem.
00:20E-learning is the way forward for the 21st century learners at school today, which means
00:26no more textbooks as knowledge is available to students on their tablets at a click of
00:31a button.
00:32More and more schools are researching on the benefits of creating online solutions to classroom
00:37learning.
00:38Jain's Modern Academy, Dubai, is the first Asian school in the UAE to create a digital
00:44curriculum from grade 4 to grade 7.
00:47I think if you look around, that is the way forward for education.
00:51Today's learners are basically digital natives.
00:54If you see around, they basically learn more through gadgets than learning through textbooks.
00:59So we thought, why not shift their gadget time to actually learning time by providing
01:04gadgets at school, which is to be used for education.
01:07We have started with textbooks going online, digital, on tablets.
01:12But the plan is, in the next two to three years, we'll have everything in digital format.
01:16Be it classwork, be it homework, be it tests, be it their assessments, everything will be
01:22done through these tablets.
01:24This school also has a 3D learning laboratory, a part of the e-learning initiative.
01:29Animated bunch of students from grade 8 were being given lessons on plant reproduction.
01:35When the stamen is matured, these pollen grains are released.
01:44I find e-learning better because you get a visual idea, whereas a textbook has only definitions
01:51and you can't exactly imagine it.
01:53So an e-book idea will be better because you can at least visualise it.
01:59Right now we're learning the flower, so we're going through all the structures, and it gives
02:04you a clear understanding, so I think it's a better way to learn.
02:08It looks like this revolutionary concept of digital curriculums, where all content will
02:14be available on tablet, is all set to overtake the old-fashioned learning world of books
02:20and bags.
02:21And that really spells sweet freedom from lugging a tonne of books in heavy bags for
02:26students very soon.
