00:00I would definitely prefer to eat and because of the homemade food I like the fact that
00:12I like before four hours before if I'll go to the to the to the kitchen and help my mom
00:18out like wrap all the samosa and everything and you know and as well learn how to cook
00:24so yeah I like that fact and the thing is like homemade food is always better it always
00:29tastes better outside food is full of oily stuff it's not that healthy and then you
00:35have to wait like for half an hour extra until the food is ready you won't have you know
00:40those fresh teeth when you break your fast with so yeah so definitely I prefer eating
00:45at home.
00:46I do eat out a lot in Ramadan I did back in 2011 we did have a lot of buffet outside in
00:52different restaurants different five-star hotels I think it's a great opportunity it's
00:56actually an excuse to eat out more outside in Dubai you can't have this opportunity in
01:01back in the UK or in the US or anywhere in Europe.
01:05We have to also remember that Ramadan is not only about eating out it's about remembering
01:11the poor the needy so when we eat out so we have to make sure that we give them a share
01:15as well.
01:16I really like home-cooked food and right before iftar my mom would like be frying her pakoras
01:21and her samosas and these are very home like she makes them fresh especially during Ramadan
01:27she makes that extra effort because my dad likes to have the food at home so it's a huge
01:33spread.
01:34The home environment it's just a lot more relaxed I would say a lot more you're at ease
01:40you can eat what you want.
01:42Definitely eating in why because it's like that one time like that one month in the year
01:49where you get all these certain meals made by your mom and it's like so different and
01:53it's like it's funny how if she makes it in the like the other months it doesn't taste
01:58like how it tastes in Ramadan so good so definitely eating it but once in a while eating out with
02:03friends but that's like maybe dinner but not iftar, iftar is definitely at home.
02:08During Ramadan I prefer definitely to eat in because I believe that it's more of a family
02:15get together kind of a thing and I also believe that eating out is more of a waste because
02:20iftar buffets what I feel is people because they're so hungry they tend to take so much
02:23of food but then they don't eat everything on the plate because they just look at everything
02:27and they feel that you know I want to eat everything but then they cannot and that's
02:31why I think I prefer definitely eating at home you can make healthy food and you know
02:35what everybody's eating and it's a time when all of us are together and you know break
02:38the fast together so then it's like more of a peaceful family time.
02:43The hotels and the restaurants really go out of their way to make Ramadan one of their
02:47showstoppers it's a chance for you know my expat friends to learn more about the culture
02:51that they live in so I really really enjoy that some of the tents would have entertainment
02:57you know like with players later on in the evening towards school but it is really really
03:03wonderful opportunity to learn about the culture and obviously try out some Emirati food which
03:08you know I would never know how to make.
03:10It is relaxed to be in eat whatever you like I don't eat a lot so if I go to the restaurant
03:20I really eat a lot.
03:21Ramadan to me is really a thing for spiritual I really believe in that so I prefer to go
03:29for prayers first and read of course I want to eat drink my coffee and have my dates first
03:35before I go to prayers when I come back I'll have my soup and have something light later
03:39on like 10-11 o'clock I would go out to a restaurant.
03:43Although people say oh we don't want to eat we just want to pray and lose weight or something
03:48we all end up putting on weight because you've got to do these fritters you know we call
03:53them gheymah and they're full of oil and they're dipped in sugar afterwards and you have two
03:59three every day at least and two a day is like 6,000 calories so no losing weight but
04:05so we make sure that everything is ready from that side the fritter side right at the time
04:10of Isfah so instead of going preparing for Falafel we're going to prepare all the fritters
04:16and eat them it's like really hilarious I'm telling you especially when my husband screams
04:21for his soup.
04:22Soup!
