Fashion Forward 2013 Highlights

Designers from across the region showcase their creations at the three-day Fashion Forward event in Dubai.

00:00Drama, creativity, fun, games, and a whole lot of attitude, it all went down as the first

00:13season of Fashion Forward wowed the crowds.

00:16The Fashion Week-styled three-day event showcased some of the best looks from local designers.

00:21UAE-based designers including Michael Cinco, Fern O'Neill, Issa, Zahan Gandor, and Aisha

00:28Depala boasted diverse collections as models strutted down the catwalk mixing ready-to-wear

00:33with haute couture.

00:35In a burst of colour and decadent fabrics, there were also regional designers including

00:40Rami Kadi from Lebanon and Tahir Sultan from Kuwait.

00:44The event kicked off with a talk by famed Lebanese designer Rahib Karouz, a Paris Fashion

00:49Week favourite.

00:50The event also saw international fashion experts head up workshops and educational forums.

00:56Council of Fashion Designers of America CEO Stephen Kolb also attended and was on hand

01:01with tips and expert advice and emphasis on how his organization support emerging talent.

01:07From what I can see with the organizers of Fashion Forward, they have the clarity which

01:13is really support designers within the region.

01:16You don't need to put all kinds of bells and whistles on it by bringing in famous designers

01:23from outside the region, really connect to what the talent is here and own that.

01:28And once you own that, and once you have that foundation, and once you can not just celebrate

01:34the designer's creativity, but as I said, bring in the business side of it so they understand

01:39that, then everything else is possible.

01:42Organizers said preparations for the second season of the bi-annual event are already

01:46underway with the next in the season slated for October.
