Gulf News readers share how they pass time when stuck in traffic.
Transcript
00:00Anyone working a 9-6 job in the UAE is well aware of the frustration rush-hour traffic
00:10can cause, especially for those who commute between Sharjah and Dubai.
00:14We asked a few of our readers about how they cope with traffic to make it a less painful
00:19process.
00:23I'm stuck in traffic pretty much every day.
00:25I work in Dubai.
00:26I have to drive to Sharjah every day.
00:29It's terrible.
00:32Every single day it's just at least two hours because it's about six to eight o'clock when
00:37I get home and it's pretty exhausting.
00:41I sit around.
00:42I look at the other people.
00:44I make stories in my head about the other people, kind of like, okay, where's this guy
00:48headed to?
00:49Where did he come from?
00:50You know, this guy's running away from the cops.
00:53This guy's trying to get to, you know, Sharjah to kind of meet his kids or, you know, just
01:00random stories like that.
01:05I usually try to avoid it.
01:07If my friends are free, I go with them, chill in a coffee shop.
01:10If they're busy, I go alone, YouTube videos, Facebook, something like that.
01:19I live in Sharjah and I work in Sharjah as well, but a lot of my work is in Dubai and
01:25I get stuck in traffic almost on a daily basis.
01:27It's really irritating because it takes me longer to get out of Sharjah than to actually,
01:33when I'm actually driving in Dubai.
01:36Like it's a shorter period of time.
01:38So basically on a daily basis, it takes me around 45 minutes to get out of Sharjah, especially
01:42in the area of national panes.
01:46It's such a drag.
01:47So as you guys can see, we are stuck now.
01:49This is the usual, getting out of Sharjah, getting into Dubai, stuck in traffic.
01:54At this point, what I usually do, I do something really weird.
01:57I look at the license plate numbers and basically, so as Arabs, we have this thing where we use
02:03Arabic English.
02:04For example, we have the letter three that signifies the A.
02:08So if you have a license plate that's like, for example, three, six, three, four, five,
02:11it'd be A and then six would be T.
02:14So it's A, T, A.
02:16So basically, I make a name, like I figure out a word from the license plate.
02:20It's pretty fun.
02:21It's interesting.
02:22It keeps me entertained while I'm alone.
02:25Oh, but if I'm not alone, like if I have someone with me in the car, we usually play the alphabet
02:28game which actually expands our vocabulary and basically, we pick a letter, we stick
02:35to a letter, like for example, C.
02:37And let's say I say the word cat, then the other person would have to pick a word that
02:41starts with the last letter of the word that I used.
02:43For example, so I'd say cats, they'd say telegram.
