Shaping Portsmouth Apprenticeships Bus Roadshow 2025

Shaping Portsmouth are taking the apprenticeships bus on a roadshow across schools in Portsmouth from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th February.

00:00Hi, I'm Chloe, I'm an Enterprise Coordinator and I work for Solent Careers Hub and Portsmouth

00:05City Council.

00:06Brilliant, so tell me a little bit about the Apprenticeship Bus Roadshow and what's it

00:10all about and what people can get out of it.

00:12Yeah, fantastic.

00:13The Roadshow is all about taking local apprentices from lots of different businesses into secondary

00:21schools to speak with Year 10 students via a speed networking session.

00:26So it's an opportunity for young people to hear about what an apprenticeship is, the

00:29experiences of current apprentices in local businesses and just gain a little bit of knowledge

00:35and have the opportunity to ask questions as well and it's really valuable.

00:40Brilliant.

00:41Tell me when you're going to be going into the schools.

00:42We're going into the schools on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so the 12th, 13th and

00:4814th of February, which is during National Apprenticeships Week.

00:52Brilliant.

00:53And tell me what people really get out of this.

00:55So, I mean, for the young people, this is an opportunity to really gain knowledge and

01:01experience and actually ask questions.

01:03We also think it's really good for their confidence and to be able to speak to people outside

01:09of their network and to local professionals and they really gain a lot and it inspires

01:17them to think about apprenticeships in a new way.

01:20Hi, I'm Morgan from Carrington West and I am a Marketing Assistant.

01:24Tell me, Morgan, about your sort of process with the apprenticeship scheme.

01:31So, I started at university and after a few months I decided it wasn't for me, so I made

01:38a decision to leave and then found the position that I'm working in now, which was an apprenticeship.

01:43So I was really quite lucky to have found that and it was so much better suited to my

01:49learning styles and for me as a person.

01:53Brilliant.

01:54And I understand that you did an apprenticeship scheme last year and you're completing another

01:58one this year?

01:59Yep, so I completed a Level 3 Marketing Assistant apprenticeship and I qualified in October

02:08last year, 2024.

02:10And then this year, in 2025, I'll be starting a Digital Marketing degree at the University

02:16and it's just a great opportunity and I really think further learning is important.

02:21Brilliant.

02:22And tell me how you've enjoyed it and that transition?

02:26So, for me it's really great to learn on the job and not only learn from the learning materials

02:34provided, but also from people around the business that have so much experience and

02:39I find that really great.
