President Donald Trump has reignited discussions about U.S.-North Korea relations, declaring that his personal rapport with Kim Jong Un remains strong and could pave the way for renewed diplomacy. Speaking alongside Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the White House, Trump called North Korea "a big asset" and emphasized that "we will have relations" with the regime. 01:21and that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

01:23And I can tell you that Japan likes the idea

01:27because their relationship is not very good with him.

01:30And if I can have a relationship with not only him,

01:34but other people throughout the world

01:36where there seem to be difficulties,

01:38I think that's a tremendous asset for the world,

01:40not just the United States.

01:46President Trump is in power again.

01:50If we are able to move towards resolving issues

01:54with North Korea, I think it would be great.

01:58And of course, for us, that includes

02:01not only denuclearization, but also

02:04resolving the abductee issue.

02:07And so not only the victims of the abductees,

02:13but also their families, too, are aging,

02:15and so our time is limited.

02:18So if the President of the United States,

02:21if President Trump is able to resolve this issue,

02:26we do understand that it's a Japan issue first and foremost.

02:29Having said that, we would love to continue

02:31to cooperate with them.
