00:00The Bureau of Corrections targets the establishment of prison facilities in different regions of the country.

00:06According to Bucor Chief Director General Gregorio Catapang,

00:10it is far from improving the penal system of the country.

00:14According to RA 10575,

00:17it is currently targeting the possible allocation in regions that do not yet have facilities,

00:22including Region 1, 2, 3, and Cordillera.

00:26According to Catapang,

00:28there are already talks for the establishment of bigger facilities.

00:34The target is to move the newly delivered prisons outside of Metro Manila

00:38and to completely close them in 2028.

00:41According to our mandate, RA 10575,

00:46we are allowed to put regional prison facilities.

00:52We do not yet have facilities in Region 1, 2, 3, and Cordillera.

00:58That will be our next target.

01:02But we already have a willing partner here in the north of Metro Manila.

01:08And then south of Metro Manila, we are just firming it up.

01:12We will be able to get a bigger space.

01:16Our plan is that by 2028, we will be able to move the newly delivered prisons outside of Metro Manila.
