00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has denied that the Executive has a role in the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.

00:09The President insisted that the government should separate the Congress.

00:13For Balitang Pambansa, here is the report.

00:19Did President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. have nothing to do with the impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte?

00:25No, the Executive cannot have a hand in the impeachment.

00:29The Executive has no role in the impeachment.

00:31I do not give guidance to Congress.

00:33We are independent of each other.

00:35The Vice President was impeached after the 215 lawmakers signed the 4th impeachment complaint.

00:43The President was the first to talk to the Congress to avoid filing a complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

00:49However, the Presidential Senate was the first to sign on the list, led by Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos.

00:57While the President's cousin, House Speaker Marty Drumwaldes, was the last to sign.

01:03Once it has been filed, there is a procedure that needs to be followed already.

01:08So I told him that the process has already begun.

01:16So it's your duty now to support that process.

01:20So do your duty, that's what I told him.

01:24You have to support the process.

01:26You are constitutionally mandated to carry out that process.

01:30I didn't know you'd be the first to sign.

01:34They will call it an impeachment court.

01:36But the session has been adjourned and will resume on June 2 after the election.

01:41Only the President of the Republic of the Philippines has the power to hold a special session.

01:48If the Senators ask for it, yes.

01:51Again, they will decide.

01:53We are not the ones deciding this.

01:56If the Senate President calls me up on the telephone,

02:01the Senators, I talk to the Senators if they can hold a special session.

02:04Sure, I'll do it.

02:06But if they don't request it, that means they're doing something else.

02:10They're not yet ready.

02:12It is up to them how they decide to have the trial.

02:18When they have the trial, what are the rules for the trial,

02:21how they will conduct it.

02:23The President believes that impeachment has no effect on the economy or the service of the government.

02:29Seven articles of impeachment were the basis of the Congress' complaint,

02:33including the betrayal of public trust,

02:35culpable violation of the Constitution,

02:37graft and corruption,

02:39malversation of public funds,

02:41and committed high crimes.

02:43Like the Kill Plot,

02:45where Duterte was accused of fighting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,

02:48Speaker Martin Dumaldes,

02:50and First Lady Liza Marcos.

02:52Including the misuse of confidential funds

02:55by the Office of the Vice President

02:57and the Department of Education

02:59that amounted to more than Php 600 million.

03:02Impeachment is also the basis of the accusation

03:05because it is a part of the excess money in the DepEd.
