00:17The Edsa Busway is not a duplication of the Metro Rail Transit or MRT-3.
00:23That is what the Department of Transportation gave
00:27to remove the Edsa Bus Carousel
00:30so that the traffic in Metro Manila will be more spacious.
00:33In a statement of Radyo Pilipinas,
00:35Johnny Guismundo, Executive Assistant to the Office of the Secretary, said
00:40that Edsa Busway will greatly help
00:43because it has a lot of access points to MRT-3 and LRT Line 1.
00:48There are a lot of points where passengers can get off.
00:52Those who come from TIT Express can ride the MRT on Taft Avenue.
00:58But if their destination is near Calooc,
01:02and the MRT-3 is no longer available,
01:04they need to take the busway.
01:06And because the route of the busway is longer,
01:09a lot of people benefit from its service.
01:12In fact, 62 million passengers rode this bus in 2024,
01:18while in January alone,
01:205.5 million passengers boarded the bus.
01:24Guismundo explained that
01:26the traffic in Metro Manila will not be more spacious
01:29if the busway is removed
01:31because it will only go to the cars in the lane of the carousel.
01:35There is a lot of volume of cars in Edsa.
01:38That is not the solution.
01:41The solution of DOTR
01:45in traffic, not only in Edsa,
01:48is the mass transport projects that we are doing.
01:53DOTR insisted that instead of removing the busway,
01:57it would be better to improve the service of Edsa Busway
02:01through continuous coordination with the private sector
02:06and to meet the needs of Filipino passengers.
