King lauds nation's economic showing, says every citizen must benefit

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia has lauded the country’s economic performance, urging for its benefits to be enjoyed by all the people and not just certain groups.  In his royal address when opening the First Meeting of the 4th Term of the 15th Parliament on Monday (Feb 3), His Majesty congratulated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government on Malaysia's achievements.  His Majesty also expressed support for targeted subsidies, stressing the need to ensure they reach only those who are truly eligible. 00:04I am grateful to see the economic recovery,

00:11including economic, domestic and state investment,

00:17which is getting better.

00:20The interest rate is back to zero,

00:24and unemployment rate remains low.

00:31Last year,

00:35gross domestic product grew by 5.9%

00:47in various sectors,

00:51and the amount of state trade

00:57has exceeded two trillion ringgit

01:04for the first nine months.

01:13I would like to express my gratitude

01:16to the Ministers and Government

01:21for the country's economic achievements.

01:26I am proud of this achievement,

01:32and I hope it will continue.

01:46Therefore,

01:49the Government must ensure

01:55that this good achievement

01:58brings prosperity to the people

02:03and not only gives benefits

02:07to certain groups.

02:11Therefore,

02:15I welcome the approach

02:20of large subsidies

02:24to strengthen the government's finances.

02:31However,

02:33I hope that these large subsidies

02:41will be distributed with goodwill

02:44and have a positive impact on groups

02:47that truly deserve it.
