00:00Farmers in Caragá are now earning more because of the Department of Agriculture's Banana Production Project.

00:06Maries Celedeña of Philippine Information Agency Agusan del Norte has the details.

00:13Thanks to the Banana Production Project of the Department of Agriculture's Special Area for Agricultural Development Phase 2,

00:19because the farmers in Barangay Balangbalang, Remedios, Tirumwaldes, Agusan del Norte

00:24are already benefiting from the fruits of their hard work and perseverance.

00:27According to Guillermo B. Gumatay, President of Barangbalang Banana Farmers Agriculture Cooperative or BABAFAC,

00:33the income of the members of their cooperative has increased.

00:49With P1.7 million in funding from DA Saad, BABAFAC launched their project.

00:54From July to September 2023, they began planting and growing bananas that brought positive change to their communities.

01:01In their first harvest, BABAFAC recorded 880 kilograms of banana from the 2.6 hectare plantation,

01:07which yielded a total revenue of P22,000.

01:11The farmers' cooperatives in Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte earned a total gross income of P60,786

01:18from their first harvest in the Banana Production Project.

01:21The success of the Banana Production Project is a powerful example of how government support

01:26can bring change in the lives of the farmers who are the key players in achieving food security.
