00:00The Commission on Elections does not see a problem if the first parliamentary elections of BARMM will be held.

00:06For now, Comelec has stopped the printing of balotas for this.

00:11The details in the national news of Luis Erispe of PTV Manila.

00:18The Commission on Elections is confident that they can handle the 5-month preparation for the BARMM parliamentary elections.

00:25In case the law is passed, the vote will be counted for this in October this year instead of May.

00:32Comelec said that the schedule of their preparation is already set

00:38and they will have enough time to explain to the regents the importance of parliamentary elections in their place.

00:47For us, even though our president has not yet certified the bill to postpone the BARMM parliamentary elections,

00:55as early as last year, we ordered the printing committee to set aside the printing

01:01if we are talking about the BARMM parliamentary elections.

01:05We have from May, June, July, August, September, and October, the second week,

01:11to prepare for our BARMM parliamentary elections.

01:16If that is enough or not, it is enough.

01:18In case the law is already included, how will the 7 parliamentary districts in BARMM be divided

01:25that should be located in Sulu to complete the 80 district representatives.

01:31Comelec is also preparing to make a new certification of candidacy in the region.

01:37They need to amend the election code, the administrative code, the local government code,

01:42and they need to pass the law that will distribute the 7.

01:46Hopefully, we will be able to accept the COC this June.

01:49And then we will have to print the ballots by July, August.

01:54Because remember, this is a new reprinting of the ballots.

01:57But Comelec said that it still needs to be clear in the law

02:01if the BARMM parliamentary elections will be considered as special elections

02:06or it will just be a coincidence of national and local elections.

02:10If it is special elections, they will need to ask for 2.5 billion pesos

02:16in additional funds from the government

02:18and a long process of bidding for the automated elections.

02:22But if it will just be a coincidence of midterm elections,

02:25Comelec will only spend 2.3 million pesos for printing the ballots

02:30and additional 2,000 pesos for the teachers who will make the votes.

02:35If this is a separate election, there will be a new procurement for all of that.

02:40Procurement is very difficult. It takes up to 2 months.

02:43We don't have enough time for the procurement if that will happen.

02:46But if this is a continuation of national and local elections,

02:50it means that we can just amend the procurements that we already bought.

02:55For now, because the bill was approved

02:58and this urgent bill was already certified by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,

03:03Comelec did not print the ballots for the BARM parliamentary elections.

03:08For now, they are printing the ballots for the national and local elections

03:13that will be held on May 12.
