00:00So you think it's wise for him to suggest this, and can he actually get it done in the
00:05four years that he's president?
00:08I don't think he can get it done in that four years, but I think he's reflecting a concern
00:13from many Western countries. I know in the United Kingdom, when I did my flying training,
00:19just down the road at our relief landing ground, we had blood found missiles. It was a very
00:22clear reminder that the UK was in a Cold War, that we needed to protect our island shores.
00:28In the last 30 years, we haven't had that capability, neither has America. And all of
00:32a sudden, I think it's a wake-up call that actually, where do you focus defence spending?
00:38It's pretty clear Trump has said that Europe needs to do more to defend itself. It needs
00:42to spend at least 2%. He's suggesting 5%. And he's also made clear to Europe that really
00:49Russia should be Europe's problem, as he focuses America might on the potential of
00:54the Chinese threat. And I think all of this is designed to get the world to wake up, that
00:59they shouldn't be living under the umbrella of protection that America provides under
01:03NATO, and that all of us need to recognise it's a more dangerous world.
