00:00Our first story of the night, China says the U.S. has severely violated their trade truce,
00:06vowing to take strong measures to defend its interests.
00:09This is in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks on Friday,
00:13accusing Beijing of breaching the Geneva deal as well by failing to roll back tariffs.
00:19China's Commerce Ministry, however, did not elaborate on what measures it might take in response.
00:24Beijing said U.S. violations included banning chip design software sales to Chinese firms,
00:31discouraging the use of chips made by Chinese tech giant Huawei, and revoking Chinese student visas.
00:37The two superpowers agreed in mid-May in Geneva to pause triple-digit tariffs for 90 days,
00:44with U.S. tariffs cut to 30 percent and China to 10 percent.
00:48Trump also recently announced a doubling of import tariffs on steel and aluminium to 50 percent.
00:54Although China is the largest producer and exporter of steel globally,
00:59its shipments to the U.S. have remained minimal,
01:02since a 25 percent tariff imposed in 2018 effectively blocked most Chinese steel from the American market.
