00:06farms, paid hacks, and purveyors of fake news will flood social media with a deluge of fake
00:12news posts, conspiracy theories, outrageous memes, absurd memes, and deepfakes as the
00:19midterm polls loom.
00:21But the DICT has been prepping for this event by recruiting and assembling teams of cyber
00:26watchdogs to thwart these bad actors as our Noel Talacay reports.
00:45This is the call of Secretary Ivan Jan Uy of the Department of Information and Communication
00:52DICT to Filipinos as the 2025 midterm election fast approaches wherein there are bad actors
00:59will use this opportunity to spread misinformation, disinformation, fake news, and deepfakes that
01:07might affect negatively or positively certain politicians.
01:35The agency has a proactive response with it.
01:37The secretary during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay says they are now deploying volunteers
01:44to serve as watchdog online or on social media platforms against these bad actors who will
01:50try to ruin the credibility of the elections.
02:05One of the agency's volunteer groups is Camwatch Filipinas.
02:09According to its co-founder Josel D. Guzman, they are looking right now for hacked social
02:14media accounts and trolls from past elections because this can be used not only for buying
02:21votes but in scamming the public.
02:44In order to be organized and be properly addressed, D. Guzman also says they have scam bank where
02:50volunteers can submit reports on social media accounts with malicious content.
03:07He also says in the coming days, Scamwatch Filipinas will be needing more volunteers
03:12to serve as election watchdogs online.
