What discussions is the Welsh Government having with the Post Office about the reduction of
00:04
essential services in Arfon?
00:06
OAQ52323
00:07
Although these matters are issues for the UK Government, it is a concern to me when
00:13
specific issues do affect people and communities in Wales.
00:19
We are in regular contact with the Post Office to ensure that we are informed about our concern
00:27
to local communities.
00:28
I urge those affected to contact the Post Office to highlight the demand for local services.
00:36
Y Llywydd, a wnaiff y Prif Weinidog ddatganiad am y gwasanaethau yng Nghymru?
00:38
The Post Office is turning its back on Gwynedd.
00:43
They are scrapping the mobile outreach services in 21 communities across the county, and these
00:51
cuts are in addition to the closure of the Crickieth Post Office and the threat to close
00:57
the Crown Post Office in Caernarfon.
00:59
Caernarfon is the only Crown Post Office left in a very large area of Wales now.
01:06
Can I ask, therefore, for your assistance as First Minister to bring pressure to bear
01:10
on the Post Office to keep Caernarfon Post Office as a Crown Post Office and to restore
01:17
the other services?
01:19
What the Post Office tell the people of Gwynedd is thisóbecause you donít live in a highly
01:24
populated area, you donít count, and that is disgraceful.
01:29
So, I do urge, on behalf of the people of Gwynedd, for you to turn every stone in order
01:34
to restore and safeguard these crucial services.
01:37
Dai Lloyd AMN.
01:40
Iím very sorry to hear that, and Iím sure that that will have an impact on the local
01:46
population.
01:47
I do know that many people do favour a face-to-face service, particularly elderly people, and
01:55
I know that this does cause a concern for you and also for us as a Government.
02:01
There is a responsibility on the Post Office to ensure that 99 per cent of people live
02:06
within three miles of a local post office.
02:10
Now, that doesnít help the kind of area that you have, because theyíre part of the 1 per
02:16
cent who donítówho arenít represented.
02:21
So, Iím happy to ask our Minister with responsibility for having discussions with the Post Office
02:32
and others involved in ensuring that there areóthat people do have other ways to gain
02:37
access to money, for example, and we will make representations on this issue.
02:44
Y Llywydd, diolch yn fawr iawn.
