00:00We've seen that for the fourth consecutive year in a row the number of people being killed
00:07on our roads has increased.
00:10And that hasn't happened since the 1970s, since before random breath testing and mandatory
00:17seat belts.
00:19We used to be a world leader in road safety and now we're falling way behind.
00:25There are certainly differences and we have seen some small improvements in some states.
00:30South Australia and Tasmania improved in 2024 compared to 2023.
00:36However, we as a nation have signed up to a target of halving fatalities and serious
00:43injuries by 2030.
00:46And we are nowhere near meeting that target.
00:48You can't increase for four years in a row and hope to be on track.
00:53So we've really got to do something differently.
