Saquon Barkley's dominance this season is working wonders for his fellow running backs ... so says Jamal Lewis, who tells TMZ Sports it proves teams can't get away with neglecting the position if they want to win.

00:00Man, he's just one of those backs where he's different, you know.

00:06He doesn't fit the description of probably any other back in the NFL right now.

00:11And you know, he is a featured running back.

00:14I mean, I think he showed that this year, Derek Henry as well.

00:18I think they both made a statement for the running back position that you know, you do

00:22need a running back.

00:23And if you see now, the guys that you know, lasting and going through the playoffs, you

00:28know, they got good running games and they have some good running backs.

00:33But at the same time, you know, just like last night, you got to use them too.

00:36You know what I mean?

00:37Because they can close the game out and that's what they're needed for.

00:41And that's where the value is.

00:43So you do have to use them.

00:45So there's a lot of great running backs out there.

00:47BJ Robinson is real good.

00:49You know, I just think that they got to use them more, they got to use them differently.

00:54But he is a good asset and he's a great, a great running back.

00:57But you know, years of passing.

00:59So you got to, you know, be in that offense that's going to utilize your talents.

01:04But you know, there's just not many feature backs out there.

01:08But I think that, you know, after the statement has been made this year, I think that you'll

01:12see more focus, you know, on that position.

01:16How hard would it have been for you to not be able to play to go for the all time record?

01:20He had a chance.

01:22They're still playing.

01:23So you can't be critical yet.

01:25But if they don't win, people are going to look back, well, he could have passed Eric

01:27Dickerson.

01:28Would that have been hard for you?

01:29Well, I think that, you know, it would always been an asterisk, right?

01:33Also, so that I think that played a part in it.

01:36But he did.

01:37He did go over 2000, you know, within 16.

01:40So that's official, you know.

01:43But if he would have broke the record, you know, in 17, you know, it would have just

01:47been an asterisk there.

01:48But at the same time, I think that, you know, he's in the club and and a great runner and

01:54he fit the description.

01:55So Eric Dickerson still holds it.
