00:00Welcome back to Adelaide and the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Santos Tour Down Under.
00:09We're on stage three, the halfway stage of this six-day race based around Adelaide.
00:14Down now at the start at Norwood, it's a simple bike ride from the centre of Adelaide.
00:20And we're starting beneath the iconic Norwood Town Hall here today as the riders sign in.
00:26Fires the gun and the FX stage three of the Santos Tour Down Under is off and running.
00:35Browning is coming up here on Swift and they're about 400 metres from topping the summit.
00:41That is incredible timing. If he does it, he's gone right across to the Ineos boy.
00:46And then push on and in this situation with these two, you'd have to hope that a few more riders make their way across.
00:54There he is, ten points in the bag. He's only lost one climb since we started this race.
01:01And that's a good ten points, that is going to put him on 51 points.
01:07Still coming up, there are two more places over the line in the King of the Mountains, but they're not interested.
01:14We've got Team UAE riding up on the front.
01:19All the cameras are on.
01:22He's had his great moments in the sport, Simon Clarke, and he's still a terrific bike rider.
01:29Tour de France stage winner.
01:31And wasn't that an epic win on over the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix and a sprint to the line.
01:39That was one for the ages against Tuck or Van der Horne.
01:45Well, Fergus Browning tipped that sprint, by the way. I didn't see it myself.
01:50No contest, Phil.
01:51Yeah.
01:56That did not sound good, Phil.
01:57It did not. I think there's been a crash back there, you know.
02:00Yep, it's been caught on race radio, so there is a crash in the peloton there.
02:05Now, who's been caught? It was midway down. You can see the peloton.
02:09I think we've lost a couple of riders there from Premier Tech. There they are.
02:13And that is Stephen Williams.
02:15Is that Steve Williams? Oh, my goodness. That is so cruel.
02:21Williams, number one.
02:29And there it is. That was across the line. Maximum points for Fergus Browning.
02:34We'll put him in for ten.
02:35And take him up to 61.
02:37Yeah.
02:47A crowd cheered them through, and it was the Bruchard who got the spin. It wasn't a spin, it was a present.
02:54One second left on the line, and they are racing for it.
02:58Sprint on. Finn Fischer-Black is coming right of screen.
03:02He's the man who wants the one second. It is the Kiwi from Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe
03:07who mops up the one second left on offer.
03:09He has a chance if he doesn't lose too much to fight back in, but it's a very fast finish now.
03:14Well, there was nothing wrong with Narvaez's leg.
03:16He's the man who responds to the attack of Remy Rocas over the top.
03:19Twelve riders trying to slip the coup here.
03:23Whichever one wins is probably going to be the next leader.
03:28And it is one, two, seven. Javier Romo.
03:31So the man who was active on top of Mengler Hill the last time over.
03:35The last time, in the same moment here on the last lap of this climb.
03:39And this is a well-timed attack of Romo.
03:41We are one kilometre from the finish here.
03:45And Romo is just there, and it's all down super fast down here.
03:50I hope he put the 54 ring on today and the 10 sprocket at the back
03:54because he's going to need everything he can get now to hold them off.
03:57Oscar Onley chasing the pack mass behind him.
04:00And they're going for Onley now with a fine race here.
04:03Platt has gone over the top. He's second wheel Platt.
04:07Harper takes him over.
04:09So Harper on the chase now, but Romo, the 26-year-old Spaniard from Movistar,
04:14second year professional, swings 300 metres to go.
04:17He's going to get his first pro win.
04:19He's going to get his first pro win in the World Tour here in Ureidele,
04:23in the Santos Tour Down Under. He deserves it.
04:26He had a dress rehearsal on Mengler Hill yesterday, and he's got it.
04:31Hey, look at that. He takes a bow.
04:34The sprint for second place. He'll lead the race tonight, I think.
04:38Finn Fischer-Black just in front of the Navaeus.
04:43Yep, Fischer-Black for second, Navaeus third.
04:46Wow, what a finish. And one rider beat them to it.
04:51A brilliant attack on the climb.
04:54Okay, so more than five to me.
04:56And I've also got to say, second year pro, he's a fifth year professional.
05:02Yeah, but he's never had a win, Bob.
05:04What we were correct with is that he had not managed to win before.
05:08And what a way to celebrate your first one.
05:10First stage race of the season.
05:12Finn Fischer-Black pops out on the right-hand side.
05:15This is for six and four seconds.
05:17Bonuses. Finn Fischer-Black head-to-head with Navaeus.
05:21Throw for the line.
05:23Actually, it's going to be a photo, I think.
05:25In fact, maybe Navaeus held off Finn Fischer-Black.
05:29Navaeus. It's easy to see now.
05:32It is.
05:34The thing is, it's the angles.
05:37And we're sat in a commentary box, and if we don't get the angle, we can't tell.
05:41From this winter, I've worked a lot.
05:44Thinking in top and under.
05:47And I can imagine this day, and I'm so happy.
05:51I want to say thank you to my team.
05:54Because today, they worked very good for me.
06:00They have a lot of confidence in me.
06:03And, yeah, it's so important, this victory.
06:05Also for my family, my girlfriend.
06:08And all the people who helped me this year.
06:11Our new leader.
06:14After three days of racing.
06:17He's won the stage.
06:19And now he's in the ochre from Movistar.
06:21Javier Romo-Oliver.
06:24For Decathlon, Agitoua Lamondial.
06:27Geoffroy Bouchard.
06:54Congratulations, Geoffroy.
06:56Brilliant.
06:58The Zwift Young Rider jersey.
07:01Another new leader.
07:03For Lidl Trek, Albert Philipsen.
07:24Congratulations, Albert.
07:26Thank you, Nobu.
07:28And a big thank you to Zwift once again for their ongoing support.
07:32Well, he's been battered and bruised.
07:34He's been dropped.
07:36He's got back on.
07:38But he's won two stages for Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe.
07:42Sam Welsford.
07:44Once more.
08:00Put your hands together.
08:02Brilliant stuff.
08:04Well done, Sam.
08:05You fought hard today.
08:06You didn't.
08:07You went down with a big fight.
08:09He has not put a foot wrong, this young man.
08:12He really has not.
08:13He spent more time off the front of the peloton than he has in the peloton.
08:17For ARA, Australian National Team, Fergus Browning.
08:21Well, amazingly, Javier Romo was born in January 1999,
08:44which was the opening of the first Santos Tour Down Under.
08:47And let's hope he wins it.
08:49What a story that would be.
08:51So he's got the lead.
08:52This is the stage we're looking at at the moment.
08:54And he got ahead of Navez, who was the first man in behind him.
08:58This is the overall situation now.
09:00So Navez looking for eight seconds.
09:03Conrad looking for ten.
09:04And so too, Fischer-Black.
09:05Remember, there's always a ten-second win bonus.
09:08So four riders could win just by simply winning the stage.
09:12Tanchon has continued fine form throughout this race.
09:15And he's still up there in fifth place.
09:17Magnus Sheffield.
09:18The only American in the race riding high now in sixth overall.
09:22And nearly the youngest man at 18.
09:25Albert Philipsen is seventh.
09:27Former winner, Jay Vine, is eighth.
09:31Well, that's a great result for him.
09:33He was thinking about it all winter.
09:35Well, there's the result now.
09:36He's the winner of stage three of the Santos Tour Down Under.
09:40And he gets five seconds over the chase in there,
09:44which was Navez, given the result over Fischer-Black in the sprint for second.
09:49Hey.
09:50I think I can guess who's in the lead of this one, Phil.
09:53A good chance, yeah.
09:54There it is, Fergus Browning.
09:5558 points to 15 of his teammate.
09:59A 43-point lead.
10:01I would say he's, I don't know if it's mathematically yet,
10:06but he'd be very close to having this competition locked away.
10:11Yes, Romo, I thought he'd got ten there,
10:14but he wasn't the first over the top, was he, on Manglers Hill?
10:19Yeah, he was first over yesterday, and he got four points on the climb today.
10:24He must have been third over the top.
10:27That's right.
10:28Points classification, Sam Welsford in control with his two stage victories
10:32from Tim Teutenberg on 38, Matthew Walls and a host of sprinters,
10:36Arne Marit, Matthew Brennan, Corbin Strong, Kockaard.
10:40And Romo has, with that stage win,
10:42put himself into the top ten of the Ziptrack sprint jersey.
10:45That's Welsford with a commanding lead,
10:47another possibility for him tomorrow into Victor Harbor.
10:52Because tomorrow we go to Victor Harbor, and it's a real toughie.
10:55This is the King of the Mountains FX stage results today,
10:58and overall standings.
11:00Sorry, this is the stages we're looking at now,
11:02a little view again to show Romo on top.
11:05Another fast race in the end through the hills, three hours, 46 minutes.
11:10And Naves in second place there.
11:14And of course the man who is in the lead in the FX King of the Mountains
11:19is Fergus Browning.
11:21So let's have a listen from him.
