Graham Potter knows there can be no magic remedies to the situation at West Ham. Still, this was a sobering reminder of just how challenging he may find helping the club to turn over a new leaf. From his first three games in charge: one win and two defeats. No such worries for Oliver Glasner and Crystal Palace. A 2-0 victory at the London Stadium marked their first derby win away from home in the capital since November 2022. Their only defeats since November 9 both came against Arsenal within the space of three days a month ago.West Ham continue to window-shop in the January market for an immediate solution to their striker shortage, caused by injuries to Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug. The Palace fans in the away end could point to their own team’s forward as an example of just what the Hammers are after right now. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored both goals and led the line adroitly.

00:00It's all over here at the London Stadium and this was an afternoon that showed Graham Potter
00:05that there can be no quick fixes to the situations, the problems that West Ham find themselves
00:10in midway through this season. This was a London derby defeat to Crystal Palace, a 2-0
00:16win for the Eagles, secured by a double by Jean-Philippe Meteta. And of course we know
00:21that West Ham United are struggling up front at the moment, they've got injuries to captain
00:26Jarrod Bowen, to Mikel Antonio and to Nicolas Falkrug as well and we know that they're active
00:30in the January transfer window trying to find a solution up front. Well, the smug Palace
00:36fans could point to Meteta as a potential solution to West Ham's problems, although
00:41of course it doesn't look like Meteta will be leaving this month. There's certainly no
00:44reason why Palace would want to get rid of him, particularly after a performance like
00:48this. He scored just after the break, scoring in the 48th minute after Eze put him through
00:55and he thundered the ball past Lukasz Fabianski. And then he scored in the final five minutes
01:00from the penalty spot, it was a penalty which Fabianski had conceded by lugging down Eddie
01:05Nketiah, the substitute. For West Ham they just looked devoid of ideas, they'd set out
01:09to match Crystal Palace's 3-4-2-1 formation, but it didn't work out and when Potter changed
01:15formation, neither did that.
