00:00As soon as the Welsh Government announced their 20 mile an hour plans for roads around
00:05Wales it was met with instant backlash and calls for it to be overturned. Hundreds of
00:10thousands of signatures on a petition, public outcry and strong debate from opposition parties.
00:15Now almost a year and a half later there are signs that there might be moves to bring at
00:19least some roads back to 30 miles per hour. The Welsh Government have always said it was
00:24never a blanket policy across the country and there was some discussion with local authorities
00:28about how to best approach some areas. One of the local authorities have now moved further
00:33along in the process to revert part of their roads network back to 30 mile an hour. Newport
00:38City Council feel that there are roughly 16 roads around the city and surrounding areas
00:43that will be looked at. Following consultation as many as 300 different changes were mentioned
00:49many of which did not fit the national policy. The next stage to bring the 16 roads back
00:53to 30 mile an hour will pass by further review before being implemented properly.
