British activists stand up against media campaigns against Venezuela

In the United Kingdom, a group of activists has organized demonstrations against what they consider to be biased and negative media coverage of Venezuela. teleSUR

00:00And we go now to London, as activists from the revolutionary communist group and allied

00:04organizations march on Wednesday to the headquarters of the Guardian newspaper to protest the media

00:10manipulation of the Global South anti-imperialist struggles.

00:15Carrying flags from Venezuela, Palestine and Cuba, demonstrators denounced the newspaper's

00:21misrepresentation of the information, particularly pertaining the undermining of struggles that

00:27stand against the British imperialist interests, such as the coverage of Israel's genocide

00:33in Gaza.

00:34In this context, activists also condemned the media treatment of the January 10th presidential

00:39inauguration in Venezuela, where thousands went to the streets in support of the democratically

00:45elected president, Nicolás Maduro.

00:48The media, but you can see really clearly why, when you look at Venezuela.

00:57Do you know that in the Bank of England, just a few miles from here, the Bank of England

01:02has stolen over one billion dollars of Venezuelans' gold?

01:07One billion dollars of Venezuelans' gold.

01:10Because they say that they don't recognize the elected government of Nicolás Maduro.

01:17They've been saying that since 2018.

01:19And instead of reporting the truth about Venezuela, the thousands of people who were out on the

01:28streets, the workers, the campesinos, the women, the grandparents, the youth, all of

01:35those people, the indigenous people, they were out on the streets, the trade unionists,

01:40they were supporting the inauguration of Nicolás Maduro.

01:44They were supporting the Venezuelan Bolivarian revolution, and they were not covered in the

01:51pages of The Guardian, nor the BBC, because for The Guardian and the BBC, the working

01:57class, the poor, the people of Venezuela are invisible.

02:01Well, it's our duty to make them visible, to tell the truth about what is happening

02:06in Venezuela.
