So the sign says it all, the bell and cross at Clent and Stacey how are you? I'm good thank you.
00:04
So you're a black country artist? I am yes, from Stourbridge. From Stourbridge and specialising in,
00:10
how would you describe your art? It's a bit of a mixed media, so I use a bit of pro markers,
00:15
a bit of coloured pencils and a bit of ink on top, so it's a mixed media. And it's largely,
00:21
you're big into maps aren't you, kind of documenting the area and the little landmarks and
00:25
things like that. So we've got maps and we'll bring some of those up. We also, you're branching
00:30
into the calendar world. I am yes. So what calendars have you got? You've got two different
00:35
versions haven't you? So I've got the black country one and I've got a Stourbridge one
00:38
and I'm bringing out the fifth one this year, it'll be, so I've been doing it for five years now.
00:43
So how do you even go about picking in the black country which landmarks to kind of you know draw?
00:48
It gets harder and harder each year but I do use my social media and the communities that are on
00:52
there and they give me a lot of ideas and a lot of places that they've got memories of. So I go off
00:58
their suggestions because it's for them, the calendars that I do. And is art always something
01:02
that's been in your life ever since you were a young nipper like? It has, ever since I was little
01:07
when I was at primary school, every time we'd have art it would be my favourite lesson. So ever since
01:12
then I've just been drawing. So you were given a commission at the Bell and Cross, was it your
01:16
first pub commission? Yes it was. So initially it was the map inside wasn't it? Yes. And then they
01:24
expanded and horse boxes, I mean where do you even start painting a horse box? It was the second mural I ever did and
01:32
yeah I had to learn a lot but it's using acrylic paint to paint them but yeah. Yeah because I suppose
01:38
it's different brush sizes, different paints, you're painting upright as opposed to sitting
01:42
at a table outdoors contending with the weather. There's a lot of things to think about when doing
01:47
this one. So what brief did the pub give you then, what did they say to you? So they love where
01:53
the Bell and Cross lives and they've got like a beautiful view of like the rolling hills so I
01:58
exaggerated the rolling hills a bit in the photography that I took of it and that was the
02:03
view of it and I've got a few odd things that aren't technically there but it meant a lot to
02:08
their history and like the customers that come here, it might be something that they would
02:12
recognise on it. Oh what's that then, what little bits have you embellished? This is a very good customer, I think the horse box was
02:18
actually from the gentleman that lives there and has that car. Oh okay. So there's a bit of history,
02:23
there's always a bit of history and detail within my artwork. Yeah so do you get free beer here from now on?
02:29
That'd be nice wouldn't it? It would. So if people want to find out a little bit more about your art
02:33
they can see you, they might bump into you at a show, you kind of do the visiting craft shows
02:38
and so on around the area yeah? Yes I do markets around the Stourbridge area and the Black Country
02:42
area but you can find me on my website and on social media, I'm on Instagram and Facebook, all the usual ones.
02:48
So just search for Stacey Hammond Art. It's Stacey Hammond Art. Cool and what's next in the pipeline
02:53
for yourself then? Oh I'm working on a really really exciting map for a Vinland charity, I can't really say the name at the
03:00
minute but it's a big one, it's a big highlight for the career. I'll be able to say where that will be used
03:06
or how that will be used? It will be used across six counties of the local area which includes the
03:12
West Midlands, so it'll be within shops and online as well. Oh that's kind of cool isn't it? Yeah, really exciting.
03:19
Well thank you Stacey, it looks fantastic and we look forward to seeing more about you, thank you.
03:30
Yeah I'll tell you what, if you all come on the same side actually and I'll pan around.
03:34
So who was it that kind of commissioned Stacey then? All of us basically. Yeah, so right let's have a go, right here we go.
