Pete Wicks is swamped by puppies at screening of his new TV show

Dog lover Pete Wicks is swamped by pups at a screening event for his new TV show.  The TV star and animal welfare advocate is appearing in For Dogs’ Sake as part of his role as an ambassador for Dogs Trust.  A special screening for staff took place today at the charity's centre in Basildon, Essex, with Wicks giving visitors a tour down the 'red paw-pet'.  The TV personality spent time with puppies Nigel, Pepper and Dory - as well as his former Strictly partner Jowita Pryzstal, who also showed support.  He said: “Anyone who knows me knows that I prefer animals to people, so this show is a real passion project for me.  “With two rescue dogs of my own, animal welfare is close to my heart, and I am super excited to be teaming up with U&W for this amazing opportunity.”

00:00If I was a dog, I'd probably be a bit of a mongrel, you know what I mean?

00:03You're not entirely sure where it comes from. It's a bit scruffy,

00:06but really, it's quite loving.

00:21For Dogs Sake is following the journeys of vulnerable dogs

00:24in rehabilitation, rehoming and rescuing them

00:27so that they can find their forever homes.

00:31I've always said that I prefer dogs to people,

00:33and for Dogs Sake is a show that is an emotional rollercoaster,

00:37but it shows everything that goes into rescuing, rehoming and rehabilitating dogs,

00:43but most importantly, it shows you how beautiful dogs are.

00:50I also found out that I'm a bit of a dog fanatic,

00:52because I've always been a dog fanatic.

01:01that a litter of puppies can have two different dads.

01:04Absolutely baffled me. Genuinely blew my mind.

01:10My journey on Strictly, I think, was emotional for the people there to watch me dance.

01:13Creating this show is, yeah, definitely more emotional.

01:17Dogs Trust is the UK's largest rehoming charity.

01:20We ultimately want every single dog to have a happy, healthy life,

01:24whether that's if they're staying with us here in kennels at our rehoming centres,

01:27or if it's if we need to support owners with their own dogs in their own homes.

01:32Dogs have always been there through difficult times in my life.

01:34I prefer dogs to people.

01:36They're one of the only things that make me feel happy, safe, no matter what.

01:40They just want love, and they give you that back tenfold.
