00:00The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences postpones the Oscar nominations to Thursday,
00:05January 23 due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The nominations for the film
00:11industry's highest honors was originally scheduled for January 17, then postponed to January 19.
00:17The Academy says it feels it is necessary to extend the voting period and the nomination's
00:22announcement to allow additional time for its members. It also cancels its annual nominees
00:28luncheon originally set for February 10. Thousands of residents, including Hollywood
00:32actors and celebrities, lost their homes and neighborhoods in the worst fire in Los Angeles
00:37history. The largest blaze consumed nearly 12,000 acres in the Pacific Palisades, home to film,
00:43television and music stars, where the median house is worth $4.5 million.
00:48The 97th annual Academy Awards will still be televised on Sunday, March 2.
