00:00The ABC has analysed the Year 10 fees for the Territory's Catholic and independent schools.
00:09The largest increase is at John Paul II College in Nicholls, where parents will pay more than
00:14$12,000, up 29% on last year.
00:19Several others had increases of more than 10%.
00:22As for independent schools, the largest increase is at Brindabella Christian College, where
00:27a Year 10 education will cost $15,400, up more than 16%.
00:34Some schools have put the increases down to a reduction in federal government funding
00:39under a new model, as well as rising costs.
00:42But the Canberra-Golban Catholic Archdiocese has a policy that no student should be denied
00:48a Catholic education if their family is unable to pay.
00:52It says fee concessions are available, including for temporary cash flow problems.
00:57The Parents Association for Independent Schools has also encouraged people in financial hardship
01:04to talk to their school's bursar.
