Trump has no authority to take canal

President-elect Donald Trump would not even be able to take the Panama Canal by military force as such an act would require the approval of Congress which he would not get, former Assistant Secretary of State PJ Crowley says.   #Trump #PanamaCanal

00:07And I'm thinking particularly about Cuba and Venezuela that aren't so very far away.

00:14There is no way that the president has the authority, you know,

00:19to send military forces into Panama to take control of the treaty.

00:23He can't do it. There's no crisis. There's no authority.

00:27It is a declaration. It is an act of war.

00:30He would have to get permission from Congress to do this,

00:34and that's not going to happen.

00:36So it is Donald Trump making noise to draw attention to himself,

00:45which is something that we saw during his first term

00:48and obviously something he's going to continue to do during his second term in office.
