Wangaratta's first weaner sale of 2025

Three vendors offer half the yarding at the first Wangaratta weaner sale.

00:00Just on 4,000 cattle that are yarded here at Wangaratta, which followed MVLX this morning,

00:05we've had a pretty fair day. A bulk of the cattle have gone to New South Wales and into Queensland

00:09and I suppose those feature cattle that have attracted those buyers, I mean we've had probably

00:14half the yards supported by about three vendors, which has really forced a feature of our Wangaratta

00:20sale at this time of the year. But I mean those three vendors plus all the other good vendors

00:26have been able to put forward an outstanding lines of cattle and genetically outstanding

00:30run of cattle that anyone that does come and buy them I'm sure have great results because we do

00:35seem to get a lot of return. Given the season, New South Wales and into Queensland, we've probably

00:40had a little bit more pressure from those buyers to take those cattle back. I suppose if you said

00:44there's 20 or 30 percent retained in our region this year, that'd be about it, with the bulk of

00:49those cattle all going on the back of big B-doubles and heading north. If you talk about the double

00:53I think they've averaged about $4.45 across the whole lot of them, with an average weight I'd say

01:00without being factual about 340, 350 kilo across a lot of them. So it's been a pretty solid sale

01:08although I think that is backed up quite well by the quality of the livestock. So

01:13I think it's pretty rare that you'd find the lines of cattle that are available here at Wangaratta

01:17today. As a result, I'd attract pretty good pricing.
