00:00In powerlifting, it is the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines that will continue to promote their sport this year
00:07in the making of the first grassroots event of 2025, the Pearl of the East Powerlifting Championship.
00:15For the details, here is the story of teammate Paolo Salamatin.
00:21It is the plan of the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines to promote their sport in the whole Philippines.
00:27But this time, they were able to attract the attention of their grassroots development.
00:33Because of this, this 2025, PAP was able to launch their first grassroots event,
00:40the Pearl of the East Powerlifting Championship in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
00:46In the name of PTV Sports, aside from focusing on the youth who are more familiar with the sport of powerlifting
00:51and to form future champions someday,
00:54the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines' former president, Eddie Torres,
00:59also shared their vision for this kind of competition.
01:03One in Luzon, one in Visayas, one in Mindanao,
01:07and then probably we'll have a national championships towards the end of the year.
01:13This is our first time doing this so we're hoping it turns out smoothly.
01:18If more people join this event, I'm hoping that later on,
01:23it will reach the Filipino youth and the whole country.
01:27Torres also gave a few points on how the event will be more interesting for the youth.
01:34Because sometimes, if you invite the youth to the veterans,
01:37the audience will be more focused on the veterans because they are lifting heavy weights.
01:43So we'll give the young ones their own opportunity to shine.
01:48Meanwhile, while the group is busy with the competition,
01:53the National Powerlifters are still rehearsing for the upcoming major competitions
01:59that they will attend next month.
