New bail laws increase pressures in 'broken system'

00:06the Territory's bail laws meet community expectation and that no other family has to suffer like

00:12she has had to suffer after the tragic murder of her son, a bottle shop worker who went

00:18to work that day and never came home, whose life was taken away from him at the hands

00:24of an offender who was out on bail for serious violent offending.

00:28Today's Declan's Law means that breach of bail condition will now be an offence for

00:33adult and youth offenders. It means serious violent offenders and repeat serious offenders

00:39will have a presumption against bail, putting them on the back foot. These laws meet the

00:44community's expectations around offenders being loose out on our streets. It's not good enough.
