Sir Alex pays tribute to long-serving Man Utd receptionist

Manchester United stars past and present, including Sir Alex Ferguson and David Beckham have paid their respects at a funeral for Kath Phipps, a long-serving receptionist at the football club's training ground. Sir Alex called her a "fantastic person" and former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said "she was a very important person to me and everything that I believe Manchester United is or is supposed to be". Phipps passed away in December aged 85 after having worked for United for 55 years, possibly making her the longest-serving staff member in the club's history. Report by Brooksl. 00:05That was a really moment, she would appreciate that.

00:22Literally every time I was in Manchester, every time we were training,

00:25I'd go by Old Trafford and sit next to her and do my mail, have a cup of tea.

00:29So she was a very important person to me,

00:34and she was everything that I believe Manchester United is, or was supposed to be.

00:40I think everyone that's gone through Manchester United, been there,

00:43remembers the hug, the welcome hug and the goodbye hug, and her smile.

00:50So Cath was unbelievable.
